The Hard Luck Egg Hunt is a game created by Jordan Leary on wimpykid.com made to promote Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Hard Luck.

The Hard Luck Egg Hunt was originally released as part of a sweepstakes contest in which the winner would get a portrait drawn by Jeff Kinney. People could enter by either counting the amount of eggs in each level of the game correctly, or counting the total number of eggs in a physical copy of Hard Luck and providing their email address. Once the contest ended, the game's title screen was modified to remove the text related to the sweepstakes and the contest submissions.

The Hard Luck Egg Hunt is a hidden picture game in which the player must find Easter eggs hidden in various illustrations from Hard Luck. There are four levels in the game, each containing a certain set of illustrations. Once the player has found all the eggs in a certain picture, the game automatically moves to the next one. At the end of each level, the player must crack open the eggs to find a key, which they can use to unlock the next level; the game also prompts the player to enter how many eggs they have counted in that level. Each level has a time limit. On the third and fourth levels, a darkness effect is added and the player can only see in a small circle around their mouse cursor. At the end of the fourth level, the player must crack open eggs to find Meemaw's ring, and the game restarts.
