Emilio touches the tree in the dark when Mrs. Graziano found him.
She goes to Hardscrabble Farms on the schools field trip and states that she has been going on the trip for many years. She appeared to be the head of the field trip since she told kids rules, was the head of the campfire one night, got chaperones to search kids bags, had been on the trip for many years and was the head person in leading girls to there cabins on there side of camp.
