Valentine's Day Dance
Valentine's Day Dance is a event that appears in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel. It takes place at Westmore Middle School in the night (or in The Last Straw, in the day). It was first mention during Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules in which Greg says that he might not get a partner for the dance.
The Last Straw
In The Last Straw it was announced that the dance will take place in night, but it was put in the day because they couldn't get much charopenes. After hearing this many kids got excited as its the first ever dance that is happening in their school.
Greg digs through his dresser to find something good to wear to impress Holly Hills, he finds a good shirt but it had a jam stain on the left, so he remembers only to show his right side to Holly Hills.
The dance had old music that kids weren't even listening to these days, ie the hokey pokey. The principal then announced that the dance would be worth 25% of otheir phys ed grade, and Greg came up with a move that is easy but technically dancing, and a bunch of guys who were worried about their grades started copying Greg. Greg went to the other side so he could dance without having a bunch of copycats. Just then Holly broke from her pack to get a drink, and Greg sees his chance and tries to go their and say something to her, just as Fregley popped up and become hyperactive because of the sugar of the cupcakes he eaten and shouted,"Boogey!" and Greg fell down, and the dance eneded.
The Third Wheel
In The Third Wheel the dance was not organized by the teachers, but by a group called the Dance Committe. Rowley also got invited and it was much bigger. It was main event of the book and was set at night.
Greg and Rowley went with Abigail Brown as a dance group who's boyfriend, Michael Sampson, couldn't come due to family obligations. Uncle Gary had volunteered as the DJ and was also selling the "Botson" shirts. Luckily for Gary the lights were off so the kids didn't know they were getting ripped off. A couple had a photo taken at the backdrop of paris.
There was long table and it had punch, snacks and strawberries to dip in the chocolate fountain. People were chugging from the chocolate fountain until a kid lost his contacts in it.
At around 7:50 PM, some senior citizens from Senior Center came in the gym, and by 8:00 there were many of them so a teacher asked them what are they doing here, and the Seniors said they reserved the gym for a meeting. Then one of the teachers, Mrs Sheer, said she reserved it for a dance two weeks ago, and the seniors said they booked it two months ago and had paperwork to prove it.
Then some girls from the dance Committe got into the conversation and a fight was starting, and Mrs Sheer said the seniors can have the meeting the other side while the kids can dance on the other. Everyone was fine with it and the partition was put up, and then the seniors even put up the lights for their meeting, so it was the end for the theme of the dance "Midnight In Paris", and Gary's ripoff was discovered.
It was bad for Gary because every kid who bought the shirt found that they've been ripped off and asked Gary for their money back, but Gary distracted them by turning up the music high and everyone hit the dance floor.
The Girls where dancing in a big group, and every few minutes a boy would try to break their group.
Just then a senior went to the dance side and told Gary to turn the music down because it was too loud, and he turned the music down by around 80%, and everyone could hear what the seniors said in their meeting.
It didn't bother the girls because many took out their personal music players and kept on dancing, but the boys had enough of having their best behavior infront of the girls for that long and they started doing things like taking their shirts and ties off and yelling out loud and throwing drinks at each other. The teachers tried to calm them down, but they didn't stop.
Greg was about to go to the stairs, but the Mad Pantser struck again there and pantsed Rowley.
And all the late-comers that were coming were turning back and going back.
At around 9:00 Michael Sampson came holding hands with Cherie Bellanger. Michael had thought that if he said he can't come, Abigail will not come, but Abigail spotted him and started crying for about a half hour. Greg and Abigal's group of her friends tried to cheer her up.
When the Senior Center meeting ended, they came over to the kid's side and ate all the snacks.
Since there was no strawberries left to dip in the fountain, the kids started sticking their fingers, but the teachers had to shut the fountain down for a while because a kid lost his contact lense there and Mrs Sheer had to fish it out.
The Music was put back up and then the seniors also started dancing and made sound requests,Greg's cologne started attracting old women.
At About 10:00 Gary announced the final song, Greg was standing at a corner waiting for it to end, just then Ruby Bird was looking to get Greg dance with her and started moving towards him.
Just then Abigail came out of the bathroom and Greg grabbed her hand and started dancing wither her,during their dance Greg spotted some pimples there and thought it was chicken pox and screamed out loud and caught everyone's attention. the time Abigail Was crying, the make up washed off her chin. the dance ended after that.
After the Dance
Rowley and Abigail became couples as revealed in Hard Luck and it was even mentioned the couples table became more empty since half of the couples broke up after the dance.Abigail re-unites with her ex-boyfriend Michael Sampson and was only with Rowley to make him jealous.Rowley and Abigail where named the cutest couple.

- This is the only event taking place in two books.
- In both books Greg tried to make a good impression on Abigail Brown and Holly Hills but failed to become couples.
