Silas Scratch was apparently an old farmer that got kicked off of his land, which was Hardscrabble Farms. But it turns out Greg's dad made up the story of Silas Scratch when he was younger and took a trip to Hardscrabble Farms. He did this because he found a shed in the woods that had a shower and toilet and he wanted to hide it from everyone else.
