Template:Character infobox Shel Silverstein was a real-life author. Greg thinks he looks more like a burglar or a pirate than a children's book author, and hence is scared of him. As a young child, Greg had a habit of getting out of bed, much to the annoyance of his parents. Frank then scares Greg with a picture of Silverstein on the back of The Giving Tree.
