According to Greg, Peter was the smartest boy in their class up until sometime in 5th-grade, when some of the other students started teasing him about how his initials sounded when you said them out loud. This led to Peter not raising his hand anymore, so he wouldn't be teased, and he apparently went from being a straight-A student to a C-student.
