Mamadou Montpierre was Greg Heffley's French pen-pal. Greg told him that he will write in English (instead of French) to him, since Greg is not used to writing in French. He has only appeared in the second book; Greg terminates the relationship with him as soon as Mamadou sends him a picture he deems to be stupid. He has never been mentioned since.
