It was supposed to be fun,but it was actually really boring for Greg Heffley, until it was time for party games. At first, the kids weren't paying attention, because they were too busy playing with electronics. But one of the chaperones named Mr Tanner confiscated the electronics. First, they played the name game, where you had to make up a nickname that starts with the first letter of your first name . Greg was having trouble at first, but he finally settled on "Great Greg". But George Fleer already took that nickname, and eventually a chaperone had to bail him out. Greg wasn't happy, because the nickname the chaperone chose was "Jolly Greg", and now Greg was stuck with an embarrassing nickname for the whole night. Next, they played a secret game. After that, they played "Guess Who" where the kids were split up into teams and they had to take a picture of someone's body part and the others had to guess who it was. The team that Greg was in chose to take a picture Tyson Sanders' bent arm. They were pretty happy because they thought they were going to win. But when the teachers saw the picture, they got very angry, because they thought it was a picture of someone's buttocks. That scared the kids, so they hid behind some instruments until the teachers discovered them, and they told the kids to come out. They came out, and then the teachers matched the picture to Tyson Sander's arm. Afterwards, it was time to sleep. Instead of sleeping, the kids were running around. Mr. Palmero, however told them to sleep. But every once in a while, one of the kids would fart, so Mr. Palmero said that they should fart behind the curtain. The kids took turns asking to go behind the curtain, and one of them blew a tuba. Eventually, the heater was intentionally turned off by a chaperone and it ended up with the boys kept in their sleeping bags and a freezing cold night. They tried to dig the floor with spoons, but it failed. At 3:00 am, the parents arrived pounding on the door, and they were angry because they tried to call their kids, but the kids wouldn't answer because their moblie phones were confiscated. The electronics were returned, and all the kids went home, except for Greg and Rowley(presumably they walked back or their parents eventually had to get them). Greg then explains that the whole Lock-In idea was a scam that was organised by the chaperones that are scammers.

The Poster

The Lock-In was an event in Westmore Middle School where kids could spend the night and have fun. But the real highlight was to raise money for the school's music program.

In the book

It was supposed to be fun, but it was actually really boring and risky for Greg Heffley and many other kids. There was an excessive amount of chaperones and a very small number of girls.

Most kids brung electronics to entertain themselves. Greg asked a chaperone what to do, but she showed him a little kid room where kids could play and take breaks. Party games took place, but many were boring and kids didn't pay attention until Mr. Tanner took away all the electronics. The first game was an ice-breaker, then the name game where kids made a nickname. Greg decided on "Great Greg" but George Fleer took "Great", and Mrs. Libby gave him the nickname Jolly Greg, which embarrased Greg. The next game was "I never told you this before" which was said to help kids bond, but told bad stuff and it was likely for the chaperones to know who the troublemakers were.

During a game of Guess-Who, Greg's team took a picture of Tyson Sander's bent arm, but they get in near trouble when a chaperone confuses it for someone's butt. The snacks were confisticated, but one kid named Jeffey Chang managed to enjoy his until the chaperones tried to get him out of the toilet so he dumped them in the toilet.

During the night, the boys made fart noises and were still awake. Mr. Palmero turned off the heating to keep them in and told them to fart behind the curtains, which caused major disturbance. At around 3 AM, the parents knocked angry that their kids wouldn't answer the phones and took most of them except Rowley and Greg away. Greg later thinks that the whole reason the Lock In existed was to turn kids to boy-girl parties.
