How to Make Friends in New Places is a book seen in Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Rowley Jefferson's mom bought the book when Rowley moved into Greg's neighborhood. Rowley took the advice the book provided to heart, often coming up to Greg's house trying what Greg described as "dumb gimmicks".

Not much is known about the book's contents. It was only seen during a flashback in the first book. In said flashback, Greg recalled Rowley at his doorstep reciting a knock-knock joke, despite Greg's clear confusion. It's fairly likely that much of the book contained similar jokes or icebreakers. It was then later on mentioned in Diary of an Awesome Friendly Kid by Rowley when Rowley came to his house and Greg was saying "Mom, some weird kid's at the door!".
