"I...AM...A...HUMAN...BEING...TOO!"
—-Chirag Gupta

Chirag Gupta is the Indian-American friend of Greg Heffley. He appears only as a supporting character in the online and book version, but his role is beefed up in the film.

Overview

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Chirag is a good friend of Greg. According to Gregory, he is just as short and stout as he is. He makes a cameo in the first book during his departure party. In Rodrick Rules, it's a bigger appearance. Although he was supposed to move to Denver after the events of the first book, his parents changed their minds, and Chirag stayed in Greg's neighborhood. Greg and the other students thought it would be funny to pull a practical joke on him before welcoming him back for real. Although the joke starts small, it soon gets to Chirag's attention, and Chirag reports the joke to Vice Principal Roy. However, this failed, as Vice Principal Roy could not get the identity of the person who reported Greg correctly. Chirag later reported this situation to his dad. Greg was forced to go to his house to apologize; Chirag forgives him and they go back to being great friends.

The Last Straw

In The Last Straw, his role has been diminished. He only appears in one scene on April Fools' Day where Greg tries to repeat the "Invisible Chirag" joke by tricking him into thinking he is losing his hearing; this failed.

The Ugly Truth

He is briefly seen telling Greg that he doesn't have a maid. He was invited to a party with Rowley later on in the book, but was solely there to be abused by the older kids as a servant as Greg described.[1]

Appearance

Chirag is the same age as Greg; he's also in the same grade as him, but is much shorter than him, to the point of which Greg says if grades were based on heights he would still be in the first grade. Like a lot of people in the book, his nose is extremely long and he has short and stubby hair. His immense ears are are circular in shape like Gregory he has beady black eyes.In the film, Chirag has a heavy Indian appear accent He isn't that short as he is in the book, has short, rounded hair instead of short stubby hair, and noticeably large teeth.
