When Rodrick is banned from going to the talent show, Rodrick says that he just got Bill in, and Mr. Heffley says "That doesn't really improve your case. Bill is kind of a jerk". This proved to be true when Bill booted Rodrick out of the band, despite Rodrick being the one that started the band. Rodrick got back in the band after his mom let him. During a guitar solo, Rodrick kicked Bill out.
