The books are the journals of the main character, whose name is Greg Heffley. Befitting a child's diary, they are filled with hand written notes and stick drawings of his daily adventures.[1][2] The first three books of the series are based on a visual novel featured on FunBrain; the other books are thought to derive from the visual novel as well, but the series' website denies this.
